Fashion Barometer Friday: Women eat men. Men eat ham.

Guest post by Isabel Wilkinson, dressmaker sibling

I am newly obsessed with Javier Bardem – sadly, this revelation occurred from watching Eat Pray Love – I can only say I was delirious with illness, but it was worth enduring two hours of cringeworthy soul-searching, multiple assumptions that God exists, and divorce-justifying self-flagellation because he’s a dreamboat (and I fricking love Julia Roberts, Mystic Pizza hellooooo!). Naturally I loved him in No Country for Old Men, but it’s hard to fancy a serial killer with a bowl cut.

"Call it, friendo"

So then I was googling him, naturally, and found this picture of Penelope Cruz when she was 17 and starring in Jamon Jamon with Javvo. Incidentally, the slogan for Jamon Jamon is ‘Women eat men. Men eat ham.’

Penelope with a basket chockfull of jamon, presumably

This leads us to a nice segue from Abina’s Barometer last week which indicated shell tops – the shape is like a longer, a-line shell top but in jersey. I thank god that this shape is being barometer-ised right now, and not the other, less appealing, 1990s sleeve travesty that was the spaghetti strap. Anyway I spent many hours when I should have been working searching for the 2011 equivalent, and scored a hole-in-one at Topshop for a mere £20.

I have also been feeling ankle-strap espadrilles in my bones lately – these ones from ASOS are lovely.

Ideal for trekking across dusty terrain

While we’re here, here’s Julia Roberts looking foxy as hell with insane curves back in the 80s circa Mystic Pizza – Julia, eat a couple of those secret recipe slices, you were so much better when no-one in the entire world was ready for that jelly.

What a BABE.

Gratuitous picture of Julia looking completely mad hot
