Or: when your shirt disintegrates and you are left wearing just a collar. I remember seeing this trend for the first time about a year ago on
Man Repeller, back when I used to read style blogs instead of spending every spare minute reading about
seam finishes.

I thought it was kind of a cool idea, but not something I wanted to experience up close and personal. I feel like the depth of a collar would shorten my neck, giving the desirable effect of a hipster prize fighter. I’m no Jane Bennet in the neck department.

Collar, shirt still attached
Because of my plentiful experience making collars for the various shirts I’ve made, I did consider writing a tutorial for the blog but like most half-hearted plans it fell by the wayside, and now BurdaStyle has relieved me of the responsibility with their DIY tutorial. Phew.
What do you think, faceless internet masses? The shirt collar as a necklace: The Incredible Hulk loses his shirt or incredibly hot accessory trend?

/ June 15, 2012I’m more of a collar-attached-to-my-shirt kind of girl. I, like you, lack the self confidence in my neck to pull this off…

/ June 16, 2012You have a very lovely neck, Kendal – but even for the neckily blessed, this whole collar thing brings out my inner mum. It’s just so SILLY.

/ June 17, 2012Due to my crunchy career choices, formal shirt only mean job interviews to me, thus I cannot countenance wearing just a little bit of them decoratively.

/ July 20, 2012Good point. I try to avoid job interviews on the whole and often wear shirts casually, but I find the sensation of wearing a buttoned collar to be quite unpleasant. I’m a sensitive soul/throat.
