Some long time ago, I was inspired by my friend Eileen at Bearshapedsphere (hi Eileen!) to blog some pictures of my mum’s parents, who lived nearby and whose photos we inherited, for their “snazzy outfits.” My wedding dress post reminded me that I scanned some photos for that post, but never got round to writing it.
My maternal grandfather, Sydney, died two weeks ago after a long illness – I was lucky to be at able to see him at Christmas and say goodbye to him. He was my last surviving grandparent, all four of whom have died while I’ve been living abroad. Sometimes it is hard, this expat thing.
Issy has written before about our wonderful maternal grandmother and her time as a Land Girl, in a post which brought me to tears just looking for the page to link to. My grandparents lived very adventurous and cheerful lives, had the kind of happy marriage not often seen, and brought joy to many people.
Snazzy outfits, yes – some of which I inherited. A love of musicals, buffets, storytelling, and whisky and lemonade, which I know I inherited. And a splendid kindness, love of life, and generosity of spirit, which I hope I inherited. Tatty bye, Nanny and Siddy.
Next week I promise you will see less emotion around here, and more outfits. Some of them may even be snazzy.

/ February 11, 2013This is lovely, Abi. You capture them perfectly. I’d love some names for the bridesmaids – I don’t know any of them except my mum! xxxx

/ February 11, 2013Thank you, Annabel. It was hard to write.
I think that the lady on the left may be Sid’s sister, Rose. As for the others – I’ll have to ask Mum and get back to you! xxx

/ February 11, 2013Thanks for the shout-out. And I love these pictures of your family. So snazzy! I was also happy to see your wedding talk, but then I got lost in thinking about polka-dot dresses and neglected to comment. Much happiness for both of you!
